A Case of Intestinal Infestation with Hymenolepis Diminuta in Man

چکیده

Case report S. D., a young girl, was having pain in the right iliac fossa, with short periods of evening rise of temperature, off and on for the last four years. No history of diarrhoea or dysentery was given nor was there any loss of weight. She was having flatulence of upper abdomen. Dr. Mrs. P. Raj, W. M. S., Daga Hospital, advised her to get her faeces examined. Examination revealed ova of Hymenolepis diminuta (figures 1 and 2, plate XL). Egg is distinctly yellow in colour. Outer shell of embryophore is thickened and slightly mammilated. Hooklets in hexacanth oncosphere are arranged in fan-shape manner.

Case Report: A Symptomatic Case of Hymenolepis diminuta Infection in an Urban-Dwelling Adult in Malaysia.

A case of Hymenolepis diminuta infection in a 43-year-old Malaysian male with persistent abdominal colicky pain is reported. Endoscopy revealed whitish worms in the lumen of the small intestine, which were identified as H. diminuta after microscopy. Patient was successfully treated with a single dose of praziquantel (25 mg/kg).

Although normal mice eliminated the lumen-dwelling intestinal cestode Hymenolepis diminuta by day 21 post-cysticercoid inoculation, congenitally thymus-deficient (nude) mice maintained their work burdens. Nude mice grafted with thymus glands or injected with thymus cells eliminated their worms.
